Accessibility

We build to WCAG 2.2 level AA as a minimum, on this website and in the Gydon software. This page says what that means in practice and what we know is still short of it.

What we have done on this site

  • Every page works from the keyboard alone, and the focus outline is always visible
  • A skip link takes you past the navigation to the main content
  • Headings run in order, so a screen reader can be used to navigate rather than to read everything
  • Text colours meet or exceed the 4.5 to 1 contrast ratio against their background
  • Every screenshot has a text description of what it shows, not just a label
  • Form fields have real labels, errors are described in words, and nothing depends on colour alone
  • Interactive targets are at least 44 pixels, which is comfortably above the 24 pixel minimum
  • Text reflows to 320 pixels wide without a horizontal scrollbar, and survives being zoomed to 200 per cent
  • Animation is switched off for anyone whose system asks for reduced motion
  • Nothing autoplays, nothing flashes, and no content moves on a timer

What we know is not perfect

  • Screenshots of the software are detailed, and the alternative text describes what the screen is for rather than reading out every figure on it. If you need the detail in one of them, ask us and we will describe it properly.
  • Some product screenshots contain small text that will be hard to read even zoomed. The surrounding copy is written so that no screenshot is the only place a fact appears.

The Gydon software itself

The application is held to the same WCAG 2.2 AA standard, and accessibility is treated as a defect rather than an enhancement when it is not met. If you are assessing Gydon for an organisation with a formal accessibility requirement, get in touch and we will go through it properly with you rather than pointing you at a badge.
